If a bumper has simply popped off its clips or brackets, reseating it or fitting new clips is usually a small job that we price in your free estimate. Clips, brackets and tabs are not the same thing
- Clips: small plastic or metal fasteners that push through holes to hold the bumper edge. They are cheap parts and often just break or pop out.
- Brackets: separate guides fixed to the car, usually under the lights and at the wheel arches, that the bumper slides into.
- Mounting tabs: part of the bumper moulding itself. When these snap, the bumper has nothing to hold on to at that point.
Signs of which part has failed
A bumper that has popped out at the wheel arch after a kerb or a speed bump, but still looks undamaged, has often just come off its clips or bracket. A gap that will not close when you push the bumper back, or a corner that drops again straight away, points to a broken bracket or snapped tab.
If the paint is cracked near the corner or there is white stress marking in the plastic, the tab area has probably been strained, and it should be checked before it gives way completely.
How each repair is done

- 02Replace missing or broken clips and any damaged bracket.
- 03Repair snapped tabs with plastic welding and reinforcement, or rebuild them where the original is lost.
- 04Refinish any painted area disturbed by the repair.
- 05Refit and align the bumper with the wings, lights and bonnet or boot lid.

Is it safe to drive with a loose bumper
Taping a loose bumper can get you home, but a bumper that flaps at speed can tear further or come away completely. If it is hanging low or rubbing a tyre, avoid driving until it is secured.
